Relaxation exercises.

Breathing exercises and gentle stretches to reduce stress, calm the nervous system, and support recovery between clinic visits.

Overview

Stress and tension can amplify physical pain and slow recovery. Relaxation exercises calm the nervous system, reduce muscle guarding, and create the conditions for healing. These techniques include diaphragmatic breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and gentle stretching sequences. They can be performed at any time of day and are especially helpful before bed, after a stressful event, or as part of a recovery routine following treatment.

Common questions about relaxation exercises

How does breathing help muscle tension?
Slow diaphragmatic breathing can downshift the nervous system and reduce muscle guarding. It is a practical first step when pain flares with stress.
When should I use relaxation drills?
Use them before bed, after stressful days, or after treatment when your body feels braced. Short daily practice usually works better than occasional long sessions.
Are relaxation exercises a substitute for care?
No. They support recovery and comfort, but they do not replace assessment or treatment for musculoskeletal injuries and persistent pain.
